Corporate social responsibility or CSR is the concept used to refer the interest of the
society through taking considerations the effect of every corporate activity to the community and the environment as a whole. Government’s pressures bring about corporate awareness of corporate social responsibility; rising social and educational standards of the general public or the enlightened self-interest of business itself is not important. Rules for measuring and monitoring corporate social responsibility is urgently needed and inevitably on the way. Big corporations, in their profit pursuit and at times outside their profit pursuits, act aggressively to shape and influence the laws they virtuously conform to. Corporations to an increasing degree help create many of the social ills that exist. For example. Corporation X in its manufacturing processes generates a noxious effluent that pollutes the environment. Corporation Y distributes and lavishly advertises pharmaceutical products with questionable healing value. Corporation Z instead of using rail service dispatches a large fleet truck that transport products over several states adding to traffic congestion, highway deterioration, and air pollution.
